What is a Persistent Link?
Have you ever copied a link from the library's databases only to find the next time you used it, the link didn't work? This happens because when you are searching a database, a temporary link is usually created. A persistent link is a hyperlink to a specific part within an electronic resource, such as EBSCOhost, that can be saved and used for future reference. Persistent links, also known as permalinks or stable URLs, allow the user to have direct access to an article, essay, film clip, ebook, and more without having to try and locate it again. The links can be used both on and off campus at any time.
Links can be created to items in several of the IVCC library databases. These links can be displayed on a web page, in a presentation, on Brightspace, and more giving readers immediate access to the item. If off-campus, the user will only be prompted once for their login.
This page offers instructions for several of our databases.
