What is SOUP?

SOUP is an initiative for Computer and Information Literacy at Illinois Valley Community College.  Information Literacy is the ability to recognize the need for information and access, evaluate and use the needed information effectively and ethically while incorporating computer technology.  Computer Literacy is the foundation to obtain Information Literacy.

SOUP began as a product of the 2006 IVCC Academic Blueprint process, originally proposed to faculty by Michelle Story (Computer Laboratory Instructor), Frances Whaley (Librarian) and Judith Whitley (Sociology Instructor).  Faculty from various disciplines have contributed to the ongoing initiative.  As co-leaders of the SOUP initiative, Michelle and Frances report progress to the Teaching and Learning Committee and communicate frequently with the Director of Learning Technologies.
