"Redefining College Readiness"

Much of the keynote presentation today (Faculty Development Day-10/7/16) focused on a single definition of college and career readiness and the work going on statewide to bring the two areas together. I’ve included for your reference a white paper by David T. Conley of the Educational Policy Improvement Center that speaks more directly to the concept of college readiness. I hope you will be able to note some of the similarities in the two approaches.

"Five Ways to Teach Students to Be Learning Centered, Too"

I’ve been preparing a presentation for our Adjunct Faculty Development Academy about The Learning College. That IVCC is committed to this philosophy of learner-centeredness (as opposed to student-centeredness) is one of the many things that attracted me to this institution. As a reminder about some of the essential concepts of this approach, I’ve included a couple of articles: one about how we can work to get students to take responsibility for their own learning, the other about how we can approach content in a manner other than the pressure to “cover” it before the end of the semester. "The New Cheating Economy"

I’ve included an article that was discussed at this week’s meeting of the academic administrators. I was shocked at the presentation of the “cheating economy” that was portrayed. I thought it was worth sharing with you, as you are the most directly impacted by the implications of such assaults on academic integrity.
