Because Jacobs Library serves a variety of patron types, several boxes in this LibGuide contain tabs to help guide you. Please select the tab that relates to you for specific information or directions.

Who can check out IVCC library items?

 

Items owned by Illinois Valley Community College's Jacobs Library can be checked out by the following patrons:

-IVCC students

-IVCC employees

-Community borrowers

-Students and employees of I-Share institutions

Patron types and definitions

IVCC Students:

To be considered an IVCC student, you must be enrolled in an IVCC credit course during the current semester.
 

What if I don't meet this criteria?

-Individuals registered for a future semester will gain library privileges once the semester they have registered for begins.

-Individuals who are not enrolled in a credit course during the current semester may be granted certain library privileges if they qualify for registration as a Community Borrower.

IVCC Employees:

To be considered an IVCC employee, you must be currently employed at Illinois Valley Community College.

What if I don’t meet this criteria?

Individuals who are not currently enrolled in a credit course or employed by Illinois Valley Community College may be granted certain library privileges if they qualify for registration as a community borrower.

IVCC Community Borrowers:

To be considered an IVCC Community Borrower, you must meet the following criteria:

-Resident of Illinois Valley Community College District 513

-At least 18 years of age or currently completing GED coursework

-Holder of a valid Community Borrower card from IVCC’s Jacobs Library

What if I don’t meet this criteria?

-Most library resources are available for use in the library by nonresidents of Illinois Valley Community College District 513 who choose to visit.

-Nonresidents of Illinois Valley Community College District 513 are encouraged to contact their local library and ask about interlibrary loan options.

-Residents of Illinois Valley Community College District 513, who do not currently hold a valid Community Borrower card, may visit Jacobs Library to register as a Community Borrower if they are at least 18 years of age or enrolled in GED coursework.

 

Patrons from I-Share Libraries:

To be considered an I-Share patron, you must be currently enrolled in a credit course or employed at an institution whose library is a member of I-Share. A list of I-Share libraries is available from the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) and can be found on their website.

What if I don’t meet this criteria?

-Nonresidents of Illinois Valley Community College District 513, who are not associated with an I-Share library, are encouraged to contact their local public library and ask about interlibrary loan options.

-Most library resources are available for use in the library by nonresidents of Illinois Valley Community College District 513 who choose to visit.

Patrons from non I-Share Libraries:

Patrons from non I-Share libraries meet the following criteria:

-Nonresident of Illinois Valley Community College District 513

-Not currently employed by IVCC or enrolled in an IVCC credit course

-Not associated with an I-Share library

What if I meet this criteria?

-Patrons from non I-Share libraries are encouraged to contact their local library and ask about interlibrary loan options.

-Most library resources are available for use in the library by nonresidents of Illinois Valley Community College District 513 who choose to visit.
