Service Alert
Jacobs Library is part of a statewide interlibrary loan system called I-Share. As an IVCC student, you have the opportunity to create an online catalog account and request items from other libraries in this system. If you need assistance with this process, please contact the library service desk or watch the brief tutorial below. All requested items that arrive through the I-Share system will be delivered to the library service desk where they can be checked out with your student ID card.
Check out the video below to learn how to request an item through I-Share.
Note: The login process used in this video is outdated; you will use your IVCC Email account to login to request.
If you are unable to obtain an item through the I-Share system, please contact the library service desk to ask for assistance. In addition to the statewide I-Share system, Jacobs Library is also a part of a nationwide system called WorldShare. A library staff member will consider your request and attempt to locate a library in the WorldShare system that is willing to lend the item. All requested items that arrive through the WorldShare system will be delivered to the library service desk where they can be checked out with your student ID card.
Requesting items from other libraries
IVCC students and employees have the ability to request items from other libraries through the I-Share and WorldShare interlibrary loan systems.
Patrons from I-Share libraries have the ability to request items from IVCC and other I-Share libraries through the catalog of the I-Share library they are affiliated with. Please contact your library for additional information.
Patrons from non I-Share libraries are encouraged to contact their local library and ask about interlibrary loan options such as WorldShare.
There is no charge for requesting items through the I-Share interlibrary loan system.
In most cases, there is no charge for requesting items through the WorldShare interlibrary loan system.
In rare cases, a lending library may request payment for shipping or copying costs. However, if this occurs you will be notified by a library staff member before any action is taken. Your approval of the charges is required before the item will be sent to IVCC. If you decide not to proceed with the loan, your request will be canceled and you will not be charged.
Interlibrary loan arrival times vary greatly and depend upon the location of the lending library. Items from nearby libraries may arrive within a few days, while the furthest libraries in our system may take up to 2 weeks to arrive.
If you are an IVCC student or employee, you can track your request by logging into your library catalog account.
1) Visit the library's website: www.ivcc.edu/library
2) Click on the purple and white SOAR search box.
3) Click on the Sign in link in the upper right corner of the screen.
4) Enter your IVCC student email and password. Directions for setting up your email password can be found on Student Help Desk's Student Technology Guide.
5) Select the My Requests Items option from the drop down menu in the upper right corner.
6) Any items you've requested through the I-Share system should appear on this screen, as well as their status.
There is currently not a system in place for patrons to check the status of their WorldShare requests. Please contact the library service desk for assistance.
A message will be sent to your student or employee email account when your requested interlibrary loan item arrives.
Interlibrary loan items can be picked up and returned at the Jacobs Library service desk. Please remember to bring your ID card, as you will be unable to checkout your item without it. If you wish to return an interlibrary loan item outside of regular library hours, please place it in one of the library's book drops.
The library currently has two book drop locations on campus:
- An outdoor book drop can be found on the sidewalk near the east entrance of the CTC. This book drop is accessible from parking lot 7.
-An indoor book drop located at the bootom of the staircase near the library entrance.
In most cases, an I-Share interlibrary loan request will be sent from library to library until a library that is willing to lend the item can be found. However, in some cases, all copies of an item may already be checked out by other patrons or placed on reserve for class use. When this occurs, and all libraries that own the item have been checked, your request may expire without being filled. If you notice that one of your I-Share interlibrary loan requests has disappeared, or has had a status of "considering" for several days, please contact the library service desk. In many cases, a library staff member will be able to request the item from libraries outside the I-Share system by placing a new request in the WorldShare interlibrary loan system.
