Citation Help

The IVCC Tutoring and Writing Center Stylesite is the college's official document on citation, style, and plagiarism. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, copying whole, portions, or the paraphrasing (rewording) of passages or information from any source in any academic exercise (written or oral) without giving credit to the author or source using an appropriate citation style. Students must be able to prove that their work is their own.

Key ideas from this definition:

  • Plagiarism might be intentional or unintentional
  • Plagiarism might involve copying word for word or paraphrasing
  • The burden of proof is on the student.
