Library Instruction

What is Library Instruction?

Library instruction is more than just a visit to the library. We offer a variety of live and asynchronous options to fit the needs of your course and students. Instruction requests can range from a single brief video demonstration to our embedded program in which a librarian works with your students throughout the semester.  We've gathered various samples in this guide and invite you to browse through the formats, activities, and resources that are available to you and your students. When you're ready to request a service or session, simply use the request form below or contact the Public Services Librarian at 815-224-0305. We look forward to working with you and your students this semester.

Overview:

Instruction Session Overview Graphic: 1) Consider which formats you prefer, as well as any topics you would like included in the session. 2) Submit a library instruction request form. This form allows you to share your preferences and goals for the session or recording, as well as any student needs. 3) Collaborate with a librarian. A librarian will reach out to you to confirm the date and time of your session. Librarians can also recommend resources to help your students succeed. 4) Attend the instruction session. Depending on the format you select, this could mean visiting the library, a classroom visit from a librarian, or receiving a link to a recording. 5) Complete the faculty feedback form to help the library continue to improve its services.
